HoMee Events

Profile and Notifications

Your profile is shared across all events on the HoMeeSuite instance. Changes you make here apply everywhere.

Editing your profile

Navigate to Profile from the main navigation.

You can update:

  • Display name — shown to other participants and coordinators, and printed on your event badge
  • Language preference — sets the language for system emails and notifications
  • Email address — shown as read-only; click Change email address to enter a new address and receive a verification link
  • Password — click Change password to enter your current password and set a new one (minimum 8 characters, must include a number)

The organizers may have configured custom fields that you are also asked to fill in here, such as:

  • T-shirt size (Select)
  • Dietary requirements (Text)
  • Emergency contact (Text)
  • Confirmation checkboxes (e.g. "I have read the volunteer guidelines")

Required custom fields must be completed before you can join an event.

Notification preferences

Navigate to Profile → Notifications to control which events send you an email.

Category Default What it covers
Shift confirmations On Confirmation when you sign up for or cancel a shift
Shift reminders On Reminder sent before your upcoming shifts
Messages On New direct messages from event staff
Broadcasts On Announcements sent by the event team
System Always on Password resets, email verification — cannot be disabled

Toggle any category off to stop receiving those emails. In-app notifications in the notification centre are not affected by these settings.

If you applied for a role marked "Needs approval", you'll get an in-app notification and — unless you turned off the Shift assignments preference — an email as soon as event staff confirm your membership.

Push notifications

Push notifications let you get shift reminders, broadcasts, and urgency alerts as native notifications on your phone or computer — even when the app isn't open in a browser tab. No separate app install is required.

The Push notifications switch lives on the Profile page, right below your email notification preferences. It is a single on/off switch that applies to this device only — turning it on on your phone does not turn it on on your laptop, and vice versa. Each device you want to receive push on needs its own switch turned on.

The first time you turn it on, your browser will immediately ask you to allow notifications. If you previously blocked notifications for this site, the switch will be disabled and show guidance instead: open your browser's site settings, allow notifications for HoMeeSuite, then reload the page.

On iPhone, push notifications only work once HoMeeSuite has been added to your Home Screen as an app — an ordinary Safari tab cannot receive them. If you're on an iPhone and haven't installed it yet, the Profile page shows two steps:

  1. Tap the Share button in Safari
  2. Tap "Add to Home Screen"

After installing, open HoMeeSuite from the Home Screen icon and the push switch will become available.

If the switch is greyed out and says push notifications aren't configured for this deployment, that's a server-side setting, not something you can fix yourself — ask a system administrator to configure the push channel in Admin → Settings. This is different from the blocked-permission case above, where your own browser is blocking notifications and you fix it in your browser's site settings.

Unsubscribing from email

Every notification email includes an Unsubscribe link at the bottom. Clicking it immediately turns off emails for that category without requiring you to log in — useful if you are receiving too many reminder emails during a busy event.

You can re-enable any category at any time from the Profile → Notifications page.

Deleting your account

If you want to remove your account permanently, scroll to the bottom of the Profile page and click Delete account. You will be asked to confirm. Deletion removes your account, all sessions, and all associated data — including shift sign-ups and event enrollments — and cannot be undone. You are signed out immediately after deletion.

If you are the only member of the Superadmin group, deletion is blocked until another account is promoted first.

Messages and news

Direct messages from coordinators arrive in the Messages section of the event (at /events/[slug]/messages). You receive an in-app notification and email (if enabled) when a new message arrives. You can reply directly from the messages page.

News and announcements posted by the event team appear at /events/[slug]/news. You are not notified of new news posts unless the team sends a broadcast.

FAQ at /events/[slug]/faq contains answers to common questions from the event organizers. Check here before messaging staff.
